Neither wanted to go back, not yet. It had been a week and each were really getting to know the other better. They would spend days shopping, sight seeing, or just walking along the beach. The one night both knew they would remember most was the night they stayed on the beach. Mark had been mesmerized by how the moon shone in her eyes, like a cat. He nicknamed her "lady cat." She laughed and pounced on him, kissing him til he was breathless. During that week they had both come to a decision. She had told Mark she had wanted to stay at home. One person on the road was enough. She wanted her character to leave while still popular, that way, every now and then she could return. Vince may not agree, but she did have an open-ended contract. The show was in Kansas City doing a taping. When they came in, everyone threw confetti at them. It was good to be back. Mark informed Vince of their decision. He wanted her to stay but understood. Kane told Margaret that he was going now with Sharon on a regular basis. Montana seemed like a good place to get away from things. All the guys told her that they were pretty much going with the girls she had set them up with. That was a surprise to her. Seems she'll have to check her e-mail when she got home, which wouldn't be for about a month. It was going to take time to know her way around Houston. Carlos and Rosa, the maid, were a big help. Whenever she would leave the house, one or the other would go with her. She had come to look upon them as friends. Every night Mark would call and talk for a couple of hours. She missed him very much, but knew this was all a part of wrestling. She did have the satisfaction of knowing that she could make his homecomings very interesting. She began to think of all sorts of things for when Mark would come home. She smiled and started planning. They were finally able to spend time with the boys when Mark came home. It was taking time for them to get used to seeing their dad married to someone else. There were times when the boys would completely ignore her. Mark was not happy, but she would assure him that it was okay, she understood. He was amazed at her patience, but deep inside it hurt him. One night when they were on the phone, she told him there were be a surprise waiting when he got home. About two weeks later, he walked in, but she wasn't there. He looked all over. Then he spied something by the patio door - rose petals. He looked on the patio, there were more rose petals. They were strewn in such a way for him to follow. He soon came upon a building he knew wasn't there before. The petals stopped at the door. He opened it. There were scented candles lit, and in the middle of the room was a bubbling hot tub. Beside it were two wine glasses and a bowl of fresh strawberries. He heard a soft click behind him. He turned around. There she was, wearing a very brief satin robe. The glow of the candles made her face look surreal. He felt her fingers unbuttoning his shirt very slowly and methodically. Then came his jeans, every movement slow and methodical. When she had taken every stitch of clothing off of him, she disrobed and stepped into the tub, dipping the strawberries in the wine and eating them very slowly. Before he knew it, he was in the tub beside her. She started feeding him strawberries, tracing his lips everytime he took a bite. When he did the same, she would sensually lick his fingers. A fire was beginning to start deep inside and with each lick was getting higher and higher. She straddled him, kissing his face and lips, tongue exploring. He was on fire now, kissing her as if he couldn't get enough, leaving no area untouched. It was like riding a tidal wave, each wanting more and more, going deeper and deeper til at least there was an explosion like waves crashing against the rocks.
Ever since the incident in London, Tori had pretty much left Margaret alone. The beating she got from Margaret and the chewing out she got from Vince himself left her humble, but only for a short while. What miffed her the most was the fact everybody had made a big deal about the wedding. Even after 2 months they still talked about it. She felt she should have been the one Mark should have gone with. Of course, Mark never paid any attention to her in the first place, but when Margaret came along it was as if she didn't exist. She couldn't stand how people would talk about how good they looked together - the perfect couple. There had to be something she could do to make the perfect couple not so perfect. She had to decide though, should it be Mark or Margaret. She was starting to form a plan. She got an evil smirk on her face. Mark and Margaret had been married for four months now. Despite the fact of him being on the road, she was able to handle his road schedule by busying herself. She started volunteering her time with all sorts of community projects - domestic violence, food pantry, fundraising for Houston General, etc. She was becoming well known for her ability to raise money for worthwhile projects. It was getting so that soon she was asked to head many of these projects. They consumed a great deal of her time, sometimes keeping her out til late. She would come home some nights so exhausted she sometimes would not eat anything. Carlos and Rosa were very worried about her, but she told them she was fine. It was about this time she started receiving mysterious phone calls. it sounded like a prankster to her, someone getting their kicks. She would hang up when she heard them. But the last phone call was something different. The voice kept saying her husband was playing around because she was never at home when he called. This was weird. Somebody had to be watching her. Unknown to her, Mark was receiving the same message, implying that his wife was running around because he wasn't at home. He knew better than that, and so did Margaret. When that didn't work, mysterious envelopes started being delivered to him wherever he was, containing pictures of Margaret with different men. Similar envelopes were being delivered to Margaret showing Mark with different women. Margaret knew better. Mark would never do anything like this. It had to be someone doing this deliberately. But why? This kept going on for about a month. Kane could tell something was bothering Mark, who hadn't told anyone about the mysterious envelopes, not even Kane. It so happened that one day Kane was in the locker room. Mark's bag happened to be open. Nobody ever looks through his bag. Kane noticed an envelope. Since he wouldn't be back for a while, Kane opened the envelope and saw the pictures. Kane knew his sister-in-law would never do anything like this. He put the envelope back in Mark's bag where it was. Since he wouldn't be wrestling as he had a broken hand, he decided to take a flight to Houston. Margaret was surprised to see Kane. Something was wrong. Was Mark okay? Kane could tell by looking that something was bothering her. When he asked, she told him of the mysterious phone calls and the pictures that had followed. She showed them to Kane. It was evident to Kane that neither one knew what was happening to the other. He also knew that neither one of them would tell the other because neither one one wanted the other to worry. Kane told her what had been happening to Mark.
"Who's doing this? Why? What have we done to make someone do something so hellishly mean? Kane left. he knew who he could get to help him with this. In fact, he knew of 2 guys who were familiar with the streets to find out, Bradshaw and Farooq. But he had to make sure they didn't say a word to anyone, not even Mark. Bradshaw and Farooq were shocked when Kane told them. They agreed to help. They both left to check on some contacts they had. They didn't hear anything for about a week. Then Bradshaw received a note saying where and when to meet. They were told that a mysterious blond has been paying a couple of guys to doctor up some photos. The contact said she would meet these guys a couple of times a week. They asked where, and the contact, who was well compensated for his time, gave them the address and time. Farooq called Kane and gave him the info. They drove over to the address given. They had been waiting about an hour when a jeep drives up. Sure enough, a blond gets out. She looked oddly familiar. There were two guys there. The blond handed them what looked like 2 envelopes. Kane was taking a closer look. His eyes bugged out - Tori. Why? Bradshaw and Farooq also recognized her. Kane started thinking back. Of course - London. When Margaret got the phone call from Kane, she was stunned. Never had she thought that Tori would be capable of this. Then she started getting angry. Kane could feel her anger through the phone. She didn't care about the two guys, it was Tori. Tori was thinking to herself this was going just as expected. She was actually going to look forward to Mark dumping "his perfect wife." She could hardly wait. She wanted to be there to "comfort" him. Margaret had taken the first plane out. There was going to be a showdown. Tori was not going to be let off so easy this time. Everyone was surprised to see Margaret there. But they could tell she was not there for a social visit. She asked them where Tori was. Something in the way she asked told them she was out to do some ass kicking.
She found Tori trying her best to get Mark's attention. Mark wasn't
even aware of her being there. This did not make Tori happy.
Mark had seen Margaret come in and overheard the conversation. He came
over and put his arm around her. Tori snapped. She lunged at Margaret and missed. The anger that Margaret was holding inside came out. She took her fist and hit Tori dead in the mouth and beat her with her fists. It took every ounce of strength for Mark to pull Margaret off of Tori. Everyone had heard the commotion. They came stopped just as Mark was pulling Margaret off of Tori. Nothing was going to stop her from beating Tori to within an inch of her life.
Vince had also heard the commotion. He had someone call the police.
When they arrived, Vince, who had been told of what was happening, had them
take her away, bruised and bleeding.
Mark shook their hands and Margaret gave them each a hug. She gave Kane a big kiss on the cheek.
Things got back to normal or as close to normal as they could. The
incident soon became nothing more than a bad memory. Margaret got some
good news from one of the girls. Seems Betty and Edge were getting
married. But she got even more good news. Sharon and Kane were to tie the
knot as well. It was decided it would be a double ceremony. In the months following the incident they grew closer than ever. He never knew what she had in store for him when he came home. Whether it was the hot tub (his favorite), a night in the garden, or just sitting on the couch making out like crazy. He thought he had experienced it all. He couldn't imagine what else she had in store for him. He got a warm feeling just thinking about it. The double ceremony was beautiful. Each sharing their vows. Margaret thought back to their own wedding. When Mark would be on the road, she would look at the ceremony as if it were only yesterday. Since the day she decided to stay at home, she had been working on a surprise for Mark. It was going to be his anniversary present. She had found a shop that dealt with leather and precious metal. She had a rough sketch of a special belt just for him. It was almost an exact replica of the championship belt, but the center of the belt would have his emblem, all in gold, with his championship titles surrounding it. It was a long process, with each piece of gold being carefully molded. In the mean time, she still kept up with her volunteer work. She added one more to her ever growing list. She began to read stories to the children in the hospital. Three times a week she would spend an hour reading to them. She loved doing this, and the kids were always glad to see her. They would ask questions about Mark and his matches. Her relationship with Mark's sons was getting better. They were slowly getting use to her. Sometimes they would go on little trips to the zoo or the amusement park. They would even spend the weekend at the house, especially when Mark was home. One time they came over and found her in the kitchen making chocolate chip cookies, which were their favorite. Margaret had always liked to cook but didn't get to do much as Carlos was there to do the cooking. Carlos was off that day. She would sometimes read a story to the youngest at night before bed. It was slow, but her patience in building a friendship with them was paying off. She told them about the belt she was having made for their dad. She took them to the shop so they could see it. They pretended to be critics, saying what should be on the belt. She told the man to do it. She stopped by the shop to take a last look at the belt. She had left the boys at the house. He showed her the finished belt. She felt Mark would be surprised. She had left her checkbook in the car. She said she would be right back.
Vince received the phone call around 8:00 that night. It was the Houston
police. Vince was stunned, he couldn't move. How was he going to tell
Mark. They had added that per instructions from the maid, Mark was not to
be told until after his match. Vince knew his was the last match of the
evening. How could he hold it in that long? He slowly hung up the phone .
Some of the wrestlers were shocked to see Vince look so pale.
Mark had just finished his match, having won the title again. He came
back stage. He saw how pale Vince looked. He had an eerie feeling something was wrong.
The next thing everybody heard was a heart-wrenching "NNOOOOOO!!!" Everyone was in shock. They couldn't believe what they had just been told. It was only a couple of days ago she had talked to them on the phone. JR, who was still at the announcer's table, was told through his head phones. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Even Lawler was stunned. The crowd was still there as sometimes the wrestlers would come back out. This time it was Linda who came out. With tears in her eyes, she told everyone to look at the Titantron. It was showing Margaret's face. She informed the crowd of the news. Complete silence. She asked them to please, when they went home, to keep Dark Lady in their prayers. Denise was at the match. Upon hearing the news, tears started flowing. Then she remembered the headaches she had gotten the day of the wedding. She had forgotten about them until now. She had to let the girls know. How was Mark going to live if she died? Mark was unconscious of anything around him. All he heard were the last words Vince had told him, "They don't know if she'll make it." He could't get those words out of his mind. Tears kept streaming down his face. He wasn't aware of the ride to the airport, of them getting on Vince's private plane or that Kane was with him. Kane knew he had to be strong for Mark. He himself still was in a state of shock. He had called Sharon and told her. This had to be a bad dream, none of this was for real. He told her he was going to Houston with Mark and that she was to fly there and meet them at the hospital. Two hours later, they landed. The police were there to escort them to the hospital. |
